Decentralization of the Daily Deal Space

TechCrunch recently featured data we’ve analyzed to track the growing proliferation of Daily Deal Services in the United States. As of early April, there are at least 66 different companies creating daily deals. Many of them operate in more than one city, meaning there are more than 176 total daily deals running at any given time across the US.

Tip: we’re keeping updated the data powering these services, on our list of US Daily Deal Services. >

That's an interesting point. We're expecting to see many more media companies enter the space over the remainder of 2010 which should dramatically change the competitive landscape.

With the reach that media companies have built over the years and ofcourse the brand recognition, media companies surely have a competitive advantage. However this requires very good understanding of customer profiles to feature customercentric deals. Not sure if traditional media companies are up to it.

That’s a great point though I think they are going to get some help from start-ups that will be focused on aiding them in launching daily deal services.
