The Gap Promotion by Groupon

Big couple of weeks for the Daily Deal space:

  • Groupon’s foray into national brand deals was a home run, earning the company over $11 million in gross revenue with its Gap promotion. The company also acquired competitor sites in Japan and Russia. [GigaOm]
  • Yelp launched its official Daily Deal service in San Diego. After previously testing deals earlier this summer, the user-generated guide site finally rolled out its first one day promotion.  Yelp plans to launch “soon” in San Francisco and New York if all goes well. [VentureBeat]
  • More local publishers and sites continue to launch their own deal services. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune launched STeals this week, powered by Shoutback.  Travelzoo, already known for its travel deals, launched Local Deals in Des Moines and Minneapolis.  Both sites plan to focus on local enterainment deals in their respective cities.
