It’s been quite a week in the Daily Deal space. Groupon wants to see the children it produces, a Chinese site has an incredibly successful car deal, and OpenTable gains serious traction in the restaurant Daily Deal industry. Here’s your Friday roundup:
- Benz sold 200 Smart Cars on Chinese Daily Deal site Taobao in less than four hours. The cars were sold for 23% less than the standard retail price and the deal attracted 300,00 visitors to the site. [Penn Olson]
- A new study shows that 1/3 of businesses that run Daily Deals don’t see a profit. Businesses complain that few returning customers, low spending, and poor tipping contribute to the loss. [Inc]

- Local Ginger acquired by Where, now moves into location-based Daily Deals. Like Foursquare but with way more discounts and less mayors. [Xconomy]

- Groupspawn matches single men and women who agree to go on a date using Groupon, then puts up pictures of their offspring spawned from said date. This is probably the most creative, if not strangest Groupon promotion we’ve seen yet. [Gather]
