New Yorkers rejoice: Google Offers and Boingo Wireless have teamed up to offer free Wi-Fi from June 25 through September 7 at six subway stations and over 200 Boingo Hotzones throughout Manhattan.
Commuters and tourists alike can access the complimentary Wi-Fi service to avoid costly data charges and sluggish networks and get deals from local businesses through a Google Offers branded landing page.
The following subway stations will feature wireless networks via Transit Wireless:
- A, C, E line on West 14th and West 23rd Streets and Eighth Avenue
- L line on West 14th Street and Sixth and Eighth Avenues
- 1, 2, 3 line on West 14th Street and Seventh Avenue
- F, M line on West 14th Street and Sixth Avenue
The original rollout appears to be targeted at the tech savvy Silicon Alley situated around Union Square. However, Boingo plans to expand Wi-Fi service in the immediate future to approximately 36 subway stations including Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Columbus circle with full expansion to all 270 train stations within the next five years.
