How to Experience NYC for Free

Want to have fun in New York City, but low on cash? Not to worry. There’s plenty to see and do, even if your budget is tighter than your pants after a seven course meal.

Take in Central Park, which is more than just a series of walkways and flowers. It’s an experience. There are tours, walks and other events scheduled daily so have a look at their calendar of events and join in on the fun.

If you like money, sign up for a guided tour of the New York Federal Reserve. You can’t just drop in, so make sure you set it up at least a week in advance. Oh yeah. Take your ID and leave your camera. They’re very protective over their money, as they should be.

While it costs to see the actual Statue of Liberty, the Staten Island Ferry offers a nice, five mile boat ride where you can see the whole harbor, including the statue, for free.

Looking for something more activity based? The Downtown Boathouse offers free kayaking on the Hudson River. You may want to watch for planes landing there, just to be on the safe side.

It doesn’t always take money to broaden your experience base. Take your empty wallet to New York City. At least you won’t have to worry about pickpockets.
